Daily Update

This is America, our guardian llama.  I don't know what we would do without her here to protect the female herd and
babysit the new crias.  She was born on the 4th of July four years ago and has been an alpaca guardian her whole life.
She is the first of the herd to welcome new crias and most days she spends her time making sure that all of the young ones are not getting into trouble.  She rounds them up if they wander too far into other pastures.   She makes sure they understand the hierarchy around the feeders.  I've seen her nudge a new cria up to its mom so that it would nurse.  She is the first one to lead the parade from the barn to the pasture each morning, no one is allowed past her until they reach the pasture and she sees that there is not any danger lurking.
One of my favorite things is to walk up to the girls barn each morning, see America standing there waiting so that I can say, "Good Morning, America!"
